Train Sim World 2/3 | Sound Designer (Rivet Games)

Train Sim World is a highly detailed simulation game based on trains from around the world and developed my Dovetail Games. As a third party developer, Rivet Games specializes in creating high quality DLC content for TSW using Dovetail's customized UE4 engine. My role as the sole audio developer was to create, design and implement audio into the game. In this project, I have been able to oversee and experience the whole audio pipeline - audio generation, hiring talent, blueprinting and much more!

Indominus Rex | Sound Redesign

This dinosaur redesign is a small weekend project and fun experiment. In preparation of this project, I researched how other sound designer worked with similar creatures and put it to action! This consisted of a wide variety of animals - from the infamous seals to a capuchin monkey. I also went a step further and included some Foley of my own - recording balloons and even a child's toy for a real challenge!

SUBCONSCIOUS | Sound Design

A young man must navigate his way through a fear fuelled nightmare, in order to confront the deeper parts of himself.

This project was entirely created in Reaper and featured sound design creations using classic horror sound manipulation combined with modern synthesis and audio destruction. This project well exceeded the 100 track count and had no set audio for references - a silent film brought to life from scratch.

ReClaym The Kingdom | Sound Design, Composition & Implementation

This Epic MegaJam 2021 winner sets you in a world of clay, fighting with the ground you walk on to reclaim the kingdom! In this project, I was responsible for the audio and had to cover a wide variety of tasks - sound design, developing a music system and implementation. Designing a soundscape within the week was a fantastic exercise to get involved with and surprised me in how much a team can achieve in such a small space of time!

Blocktastic | Sound Design & Dialogue Editing

In this physics-based puzzler, each block has a particular ability for you to use in order to progress to the next level. I created the sound of each block using original recordings and processing sample libraries. I also edited the dialogue used in the game to the developers requirements.

Dungeon Service | Sound & Music Redesign

For my university module, Engines & Middleware 3, we had to recreate a games soundscape using middleware of our choice. I contacted Morris Belfrage, one of the developers of Dungeon Service who kindly gave me permission to redesign his and his friend Oskars work.

I redesigned the sound and composed music, implementing using Wwise. This project was a big step in my learning as I had the opportunity to dive into the blueprint coding, understand what the original designers created and implement my own code.

Horror Elements | Audio Asset Design

For my Sound Design module in university, we were tasked to design an asset library based on a chosen theme. As a big fan of the horror genre and its abstract nature, I thought it would be a great experiment in my sound design palette.

The structure of this asset library followed the successful BOOM library 'construction kit' and 'designed audio' groups. Using scrapes and impacts created from an electric guitar, I processed the recordings in Reaper to create an assortment of ambiences, deep growls and dissonant plucks.

Using Wave Agent, I embedded all of the relevant metadata for each sound. This was prior to the UCS protocol and in future will explore the advantages of a consistent platform.

The Evil Within 2 | Trailer Redesign

For my university Sound Design module, we were tasked to recreate the sound for a game trailer of our choice. I chose to redesign The Evil Within 2 - an incredible game and abstract trailer which originally has only music to support the visuals.

This redesign was created in Pro Tools and this project allowed me to explore the different possibilities of sound design and how much of an impact audio has on visual media.

Since completing this project, I spent time playing though the game and it's got some of the most gorgeously horrific experiences I've had - well worth a recommend.

Horror Engine | UE4 Game Kit Redesign

One of my first university projects, the Horror Engine is a UE4 dev kit that allows people to easily create first person horror games - best of all, it's free!

In our university module, Engines & Middleware 2, we had to redesign a UE4 game using the in-engine blueprinting system. With entering university in the 2nd year, this was a big challenge and I had no prior experience. Admittedly, I didn't like blueprinting - however through understanding more, practice and implementing my first sound; it felt pretty good! It became a large interactive puzzle whereby the complete puzzle is a game with a soundscape to match.

After completing the implementation in-engine, we then reimplemented our audio using FMOD. The comforting DAW-like interface helped to reshape my sounds and learn from my recently acquired experience.
